Professor Abdelilah ABOULAYT, 38 years old, is Assistant Professor of Materials science at the National School of Architecture of Tetouan, Morocco. He was awarded a MSc in applied chemistry from the Ain Chock faculty of sciences in Casablanca, Morocco and a PhD in Chemistry-materials science from the Hassan II University in Casablanca, Morocco. His research interests include materials science for the development and characterization of cements, geopolymers and alkali-activated materials, and their use in Civil Engineering practice. He was previously a post-doctoral researcher at the Materials Science and Nano-engineering Department, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Bengurir, Morocco and a member of the Civil Engineering and Mechanics Research Institute of the Ecole Centrale de Nantes (ECN) in France as a post-doc and again later as a research-engineer. He has also worked as a part-time lecturer of several subjects in the following institutions: he teached general, atomistic and mineral chemistry at Ain Chock faculty of sciences (FSAC) and Ceramic, Plaster and associated products at the Académie des Arts Traditionnelles of Casablanca (AAT). Abdelilah ABOULAYT is author of a patent and has numerous peer-reviewed publications on formulation and chemistry of binders as well as the characterization of construction materials at the fresh and the hardened state. He is also a frequent reviewer for many major scientific journals related to cementitious, geopolymers and alkali-activated materials, including Cement and Concrete Composites (CCC), Construction and Building Materials (CBM) and Advanced Powder Technology (APT).
