During his university education, he studied Chemical Engineering (2015) at the Escola Técnica Superior de Enxeñaría (ETSE), obtaining double specialization in the fields of Process Control and Chemical and Biochemical Processes. To complete the Final Project, he undertook a stay at the Politechnika Wrocławska University (Wrocław, Poland) within the framework of the Erasmus program. During this stage, he began his first research studies with the project "Extrusion of ABS filaments for use in FDM-type 3D printing". Subsequently, he continued his education by entering the International Doctorate School (EDIUS) of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). He developed the PhD in Materials Science (2021) under the supervision and direction of Juan M. Ruso (Department of Applied Physics), resulting in the Summa Cum Laude honour and the European doctorate distinction. After a short post-doctoral stay at the USC, he was awarded a Margarita Salas Grant, a competitive post-doctoral fellowship funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, to continue his postdoctoral development on the 3B’s Research Group of the University of Minho (Portugal).
His research specializes primarily in two major lines: molecular biophysics and tissue engineering. Regarding the former, he focuses on the study of protein-drug and protein-protein interactions. He combines experimental measurements (i.e., calorimetric, electrokinetic, spectroscopic, or X-ray analysis) with computational tools (i.e., molecular modelling, docking, or deep learning); with the aim of building structure-function relationships that are the basis for understanding the driving forces in molecular recognition.
In the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, he has developed routes for the synthesis of mesoporous materials, nanoparticles, and nanofibers, with biocompatible and bioactive components such as hydrogels and bioceramics with improved properties. Its applications range from its use as drug delivery vehicles, biosensors, or substitute tissues, to personalized scaffolds that promote endogenous regeneration. To this end, his research has applied novel processing techniques such as microfluidic technology, obtaining greater control of the processes and their better optimization. Together, he has conducted characterization studies with different experimental techniques (i.e., calorimetry, electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, rheology…).
As a result of the research work performed, it is worth mentioning the participation in 21 publications in scientific journals with a JCR impact index (16 Q1 and 5 Q2) and in multiple national and international scientific congresses. Finally, it should be noted that as part of the training stage, he has carried out different stays in prestigious centres, such as the 3B's – Biomaterials, Biodegradables and Biomimetics (Universidade do Minho, Portugal) within the framework of the Iacobus program or the Ångströmlaboratoriet (Uppsala Universitet, Sweden) collaborating with mentioned university and the Universidad Nacional del Sur (Argentina), within the framework of a project financed by the STINT foundation. He has participated in the achievement of 5 competitive projects obtained in national and regional calls.
Apart from the research activities, he has collaborated in the supervision of two Bachelor's Thesis and a Master's Thesis and is currently co-supervisor of a PhD student. He is responsible for diverse laboratory equipment and devices, teaching their use to newer researchers. He is a member of different scientific societies and since the beginning of the year 2022, he is a peer reviewer in a well-established international journal in condensed matter and materials sciences areas.
