Bio
Freddy Tan received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in physics from
Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Bandung, Indonesia, in 1992 and 1998, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in
electrical engineering from the University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands, in 2004. From 1999 to 2004, he was
involved with a research on microring resonator devices in silicon oxynitride technology. Part of his Ph.D. work was
carried out in the framework of a European project (IST 2000-28018: Next generation Active Integrated optic
Subsystems).
Form October 2008 to March 2014, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research
for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. He joined Utsunomiya University, Utsunomiya, Japan, in April
2014, where he was involved in the Japan Science and Technology program for Strategic Promotion of Innovative Research
and Development working on optical interconnect devices by using high-performance photonic polymers.
Dr. Tan has been a member of the Indonesian Optical Society since 2013.
