The incidence of drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is not known for most prescription medications. We aimed to estimate the incidence of DILI for commonly prescribed outpatient drugs. To establish a baseline estimate of DILI incidence, we used the estimated incidence (EI) of amoxi...
The present study aimed to characterize a functional role for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) in the nucleus accumbens and the capacity of repeated cocaine to elicit long-term changes in group I mGluR function. Reverse dialysis of the group I agonist ( RS )-3,5-...
Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are the leading cause of death in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) patients. Current treatment modalities have been largely unsuccessful in improving MPNST patient survival, making the identification of new therapeutic targets urgen...
Radiotherapy is an important component in the treatment of limited stage small cell carcinoma of the lung. It improves both local control and survival. This article reviews the scientific and clinical data that have led to combined therapy being considered the current standard fo...
OBJECTIVE:To examine whether a patient group with chronic venous disorders (CVDs) would show a different response to a pressure provocation test, such as skin perfusion pressure (SPP) of microcirculatory function.DESIGN:A cuff inflation technique was applied to the gaiter area of...
Osteogenic sarcoma is a rare but well documented complication of radiation therapy. To date, only 28 cases of radiation induced osteogenic sarcoma, following therapy for breast carcinoma, have been reported. Only one case of postirradiation sarcoma arising in the sternum has occu...
Background The study evaluated the cost of baroreflex activation therapy plus guideline directed therapy (BAT + GDT) compared to GDT alone for HF patients with reduced ejection fraction and New York Heart Association Class III or II (with a recent history of III). Baroreflex acti...
OBJECTIVE To identify potential technical factors during initial mid-urethral sling (MUS) placement that contribute to subsequent sling revision procedures. METHODS A retrospective chart review was performed examining synthetic MUS reoperations at a single institution from 2008-2...
Pheochromocytoma is known to increase morbidity and mortality. We describe a case of pheochromocytoma during pregnancy. A patient was transferred to our hospital during gestational week 15 with severe hypertension, acute pulmonary edema, and cardiomyopathy. One day after transfer...
OBJECTIVE Clinicians have been slow to adopt digital impression technologies due possibly to perceived technique sensitivities involved in data acquisition. This research has two aims: determine whether scan pattern and sequence affects the accuracy of the three-dimensional (3D) ...
Human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection and the etiologic cause of genital warts and cervical cancer, is highly prevalent in sexually active men and women. Although cervical screening procedures have significantly reduced the disease burden associated with HP...
Tabulated below are “targeted” or novel agents that are being or have been evaluated in non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer. Only compounds that have entered clinical trials have been listed. The compounds are listed by class, and within each class, they are lis...
Activation of the complement system propagates neuroinflammation and brain damage early and chronically after traumatic brain injury (TBI). The complement system is complex and comprises more than 50 components, many of which remain to be characterized in the normal and injured b...
Liver fibrosis, a model wound healing system, is characterized by excessive deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) in the liver. Although many fibrogenic cell types may express ECM, the hepatic stellate cell (HSC) is currently considered to be the major effector. HSCs transform...
Twenty consecutive patients with kidney graft rejection refractory to chemical immunosuppression were treated with local irradiation to the transplanted renal graft (3×1.5Gy). Ten patients were complete responders (median follow-up: 47 months). Six patients were partial responder...
