•EGCG regulated the profile of circulating fatty acids in serum.•EGCG decreased the expression of fatty acid desaturase in liver (SCD1 and FADS2).•EGCG shifted structure of gut microbiota and enriched Akkermansia muciniphilain.•Akkermansia muciniphila might take part in the regulation of fatty acid metabolism.
