个人简介
My research is founded on the application of Conversation Analytic methods in the following areas:
Acquired progressive speech disorders in everyday conversation. This ongoing research investigates features of naturally occurring interaction produced by people with motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and parkinson's disease in conversation at home with family members. The development of a dysarthria therapy programme based on this research is now in progress in collaboration with Professor Christopher McDermott (Sheffield University), SLTs and people living with MND.
Health related helpline interactions. This includes primary data from the Parkinson's UK helpline and features collaborations with Professor Charles Antaki (Loughborough University) and Professor Geraldine Leydon (Southampton University).
End of life care interactions. Featuring work on conversations between medics and family members in hospice care, collaborating with Professor Paddy Stone (UCL). Also, examining collaborations in making Living Wills (with Emeritus Professor Isky Gordon, UCL).
Other research work includes :
End of life prognostic conversations between medics and family members (Marie-Curie programme grant funded 2016-2020)
SLT values and beliefs in palliative care (British Academy Funded: 2012-2015)
AAC scoping research for the Department for Education (DfE funded: 2012-2013)
Dysarthria-in-interaction: Department of Health National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) post-doctoral fellowship award (2009- 2013).
A conversation analytical examination of Parkinson's UK advice line calls between a specialist nurse and people with Parkinson's Disease (2012-2013).
An evaluation of the Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD) communication project. The evaluation is examining the effects of a national staff training programme on both staff and service users within LCD residential homes. The research is funded by Leonard Cheshire Disability (2006-2009).
