Dr. Jiang S.X. Kinor (姜綬祥) earned his BA from The Central Academy of Arts and Design in China. He obtained his MA in Fashion and Textile Design and his PhD both from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He worked as a textile designer for several years before he started teaching at The Central Academy of Arts and Design and Tsinghua University in 1992.
Dr. Jiang’s teaching areas include design methodology, textile design and fashion creation. Dr Jiang teaches a broad range of subjects such as innovative for textile design approach, advanced textile and fashion design, and international fashion and textiles design. His teaching duties include different levels of class teaching and supervising BA, MA, MPhil and PhD students.
Dr. Jiang’s design research deals with innovative textile effects using physical and chemical treatment technologies. He is internationally renowned for his development of the metallized textiles. By securing more than HK10 million research funding and obtaining support from HK government and industry, he developed metallising technology for functional and decorative textiles. Dr Jiang has published extensively, having written more than 100 academic papers and books. His works have been part of the permanent collections of museums including the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco (de Young Museums) and China National Silk Museum.
Dr Jiang’s design works and art projects have been exhibited worldwide, including at Jim Thompson Art Center, Bangkok (2014); White Box Museum of Art, Beijing (2013); Museum of the Civilizations of Hue, City of Hue (2013); CAFA Art Museum, Beijing (2012); The China National Silk Museum, Hangzhou (2012); Bargoin Museum, Clermont-Ferrand (2012); Foshan Ancestral Temple Museum, Foshan (2012); The Dayton Art Institute, Dayton (2012); Avenir Museum Gallery, Fort Collins (2010); Bonington Gallery, Nottingham (2010); San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, San Jose (2009); Belger Arts Center, Kansas City (2009); Museum of Siam, Bangkok (2009); Belger Arts Center, Kansas City (2009); Musee du Quai Branly, Paris (2008); Hong Kong City Hall, Hong Kong (2007); Korean Craft Museum, Cheongju (2003); and China National Art Gallery, Beijing (2001).
Now, Dr Jiang is a member of the Standing Committee of China Fiber Art Committee, Member of China Arts & Crafts Association, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Visiting Research Fellow of Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University, and Honorary Professor of several universities in China. Dr Jiang devotes to textile and fashion design curations as well. More than 20 international textile and fashion design exhibitions have been organized or curated in different museums and galleries. Currently, Dr Jiang holds visiting curator of textile design and fashion art in China National Silk Museum and ShenZhen Modern Design Museum.
