个人简介
Shiva is currently visiting Hector @ the awesome Infolab group. Between 2001 and 2010, Shiva was at Google spinning up new technologies and businesses, most recently as Vice President(Engg) and Distinguished Entrepreneur. Shiva and his teams have launched a variety of products in Ads, Search, Enterprise and Cloud apps that made billions of dollars in revenues and touch hundreds of millions of users -- including AdSense, Search Appliances, and sitemaps.org. From 2004-2008, Shiva played a key role in building Google's engineering centers at Kirkland/Seattle, Bangalore and Zurich. Before Google, Shiva co-founded a music technology company and sold it to Napster. He spent summers at Microsoft Corp, Bell Labs and Xerox PARC, during BS->PhD.
Shiva graduated with a BS'94 (Summa Cum Laude) from UCLA in Computer Science, and MS'97+PhD'99 in Computer Science from Stanford. For his PhD, he worked on Detecting Digital Copyright Violations on the Web with Prof. Hector Garcia-Molina, and was awarded the annual Arthur Samuel Dissertation Award by the Stanford Computer Science Department. His "fun" two minutes of fame came through SCAM (Stanford Copy Analysis Mechanism), an experimental system he built that helped identify widespread academic plagiarism in 1995 ( Communications of the ACM Editorial). At UCLA, he was awarded the Distinguished Scholar Award in 1993, and the IBM Outstanding UnderGraduate Award in Computer Science in 1994.
