He has expertise in wildlife habitat relationships and restoration including focused work in birds, small mammals (including bats), and amphibians-reptiles. He also specializes in study design and sampling methods. He has studied many endangered species, and has been involved in analyzing bird-wind energy relationships for decades. He is senior author of graduate-level textbooks, including “Wildlife habitat relationships: concepts and applications” (2006, 3rd edition. Island Press, Washington, DC.), “Wildlife study design” (2008, 2nd edition. Springer-Verlag, New York, N.Y.), “Restoring wildlife: ecological concepts and practical applications” (Island Press, Washington, DC.), and “Wildlife habitat conservation: concepts, challenges, and solutions” (2015, The Wildlife Society, Wildlife Management and Conservation book series. The Johns Hopkins University Press, Baltimore, MD). He is also an author on over 250 peer-review papers. He is former editor of the Journal of Wildlife Management, and serves as an associate editor of several journals.
