At OSU, Dr. Yan has mapped and cloned genes in numerous traits including winter wheat vernalization requirement duration, resistance against diseases and insects, nitrogen use efficiency, and etc. In recent studies, the Yan lab cloned mDES1 as a semi-dominant NLR allele that causes whole-seedling necrosis in wheat (Plant Physiology, 2021), TaOGT1 that regulates flowering time of winter wheat cultivars (Nature Communications, 2021), and TaCol-B5 that enhances field-based grain yield by ∼12% (Science, 2022). The Science paper is titled “TaCol-B5 modifies spike architecture and enhances grain yield in wheat”.
