Laurent Canale was born in Saint-Martin d'Hères, France, in 1972. He received the Master’s and Ph.D. degrees, focusing on high-frequencies electronics and optoelectronics, from Limoges University, Limoges, France, in 1998 and 2002, respectively.
He had published articles about ferrite strontium thin films for magnetic applications, but his main focus work area was pulsed laser deposition of lithium niobate thin films used for optical telecommunications. From 2004 to 2010, he was a Research Engineer with the National Research Institute of Agronomy with the BioEMCo Laboratory, Paris, France, dealing with the development of technology around water isotopic tools for agronomy and weather predictive models. In 2010, he joined the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), Toulouse, France, where he worked in the Laboratoire Plasma et Conversion d'Energie (LAPLACE) “Light & Matter” research group, where his research focused on modern light sources such as light-emitting diodes and organic light-emitting diodes, with special interest in aging degradation mechanisms. He is currently a Research Engineer with the LAPLACE Laboratory, CNRS.
Dr. Canale has been the Midi-Pyrenees Region Chairman of the French Illuminating Engineering Society since 2014.
