个人简介
Professor Jo Salmon holds a Personal Chair in the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences. She is Associate Head of School (Research) and a member of the Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research (C-PAN). Professor Salmon currently holds a 5-year National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Principal Research Fellowship (to finish July, 2017). She supervises 6 research degree students and 4 post-doctoral fellows. Professor Salmon is an active researcher in understanding and influencing physical activity in populations, in particular children and families.
Professor Salmon's program of research focuses on the behavioural epidemiology of children’s' and adults’ physical activity and sedentary behaviour. She is interested in the assessment of these behaviours; in understanding the individual, social and environmental factors that influence participation; and the development of strategies to promote physical activity and reduce sedentary time among children and adults.
Recent research includes the development and validation of instruments to assess physical activity and sedentary behaviour among children; descriptive studies of influences on child and youth physical activity and sedentary behaviour; and examination of the effectiveness of strategies to reduce children’s sitting time and promote physical activity at school and at home.
Research interests
Professor Salmon's program of research focuses on:
a) the epidemiology of child and youth sedentary behaviour and physical activity (prevalence and trends, associations with health);
b) design and implementation of observational (cohort) and intervention studies (efficacy and effectiveness trials) in sedentary behaviour and physical activity among children and youth, as well as adults;
c) assessment of children’s sedentary behaviour and physical activity using surveys and objective measures (eg, activity monitors); and
d) translational research into policy and practice.
