Research interests
Helena’s research interests focuses on understanding how emotional and cognitive processes interact to influence employees’ well-being and performance at work. In unravelling the complexities and dynamics of emotional and psychosocial processes at work, Helena’s research takes a multi-disciplinary approach, integrating research from the fields of psychology, management and organisational behaviour to better understand how individuals and groups think, feel and behave at work. Although the importance of cognitive, emotional, physiological, and social antecedents of organisational behaviour is widely recognized, research in management has yet to interlink these components in the work setting. Helena’s research aims to advance knowledge in this area by adopting a multimethod and multilevel approach. Helena’s research has been published in journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, British Journal of Management, Applied Cognitive Psychology and Psychology & Marketing. Helena is passionate about doing applied, engaged research and works closely with organisations to help solve important practical questions and to advance theory and knowledge on how to maximise employee performance, health and well-being at work. For example, Helena has been able to build on a decade-long history of successful collaboration with NSW hospitals and have established research partnerships with 15 hospitals across 3 local health districts. She has also been successful at attracting Category 1 and 2 funding such as ARC Linkage, Discovery and Templeton Grants. Helena received the 2015 Early Career Researcher award in 2015 and the 2016 Research Engagement Award.
