I head a research group investigating the molecular control of cell division in human cells.
We study pathways implicated in the progression of various cancers that are important targets for the development of new clinical tools. Therefore our basic research programme generates knowledge and reagents of therapeutic value in combatting cancer.
Our particular expertise lies in developing assays that use time-lapse microscopy of single cells to test how cell division is controlled in time and space. Our experiments have contributed to understanding ubiquitin-mediated targeting, and how it regulates the activity of the Aurora kinases during mitotic exit, cytokinesis and cell spreading. I also train postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers in the lab, and teach cell biology to undergraduate students.
