Development of Powerful Gyrotrons with Improved Parameters in IAP RAS/GYCOM
2024 Photonics & Electromagnetics Research Symposium (PIERS)(2024)
Abstract
Gyrotrons are the most advanced high-power sources of millimeter-wave radiation. Currently, the Institute of Applied Physics RAS, together with GYCOM Ltd, produces several versions of gyrotrons (gyrotron based complexes) for numerous applications. Gyrotrons with a frequency range of 80–250 GHz and a power of up to 1 MW are actively used in controlled thermonuclear fusion installations. This gyrotrons, can operate in very long pulses of up to 1000 s. Currently such systems are supplied to the international tokamak ITER, installations EAST (Hefei Institutes of Physical Science Hefei, China), HL-2A (Southwestern Institute of Physics, Chengdu, China), KStar (Korea Institute of Fusion Energy, Daejeon, South Korea), T-15MD (National Research Center Kurchatov Institute, Moscow, Russia) and others fusion facilities. Some of these gyrotrons are capable of providing dual-mode operation at different frequencies with high efficiency.
