摘要
To maintain the integrity and safety of the pipeline, different chemicals are used as corrosion inhibitors in the flow-assurance industry. Ionic liquids (ILs) are a promising new class of corrosion inhibitors for pipelines in the oil and gas industry due to their negligible vapour pressure, high thermal stability, and ability to be tailored for specific applications. This research investigated the effectiveness of tetraethylammonium iodide (TEAI) as a corrosion inhibitor at 0.01, 1 and 5 wt% concentrations. TEAI showed a decrease in corrosion rate with increasing concentration, with the lowest rate of 0.59 mm/year at 5 wt% concentration. TEAI+MEG mixtures also showed the lowest corrosion rate of 0.6 mm/year at 5 wt% concentration. The work is new, and these results suggest that ILs have the potential to be used as effective corrosion inhibitors in flow assurance applications. It provides an avenue for further exploration of ionic liquids as corrosion inhibitors.
