A Study on Kinematic Characteristics and Impression of Walking Motion

We investigate the impressions of two walking styles (good and poor posture). The experiment involved two walking instructors including a male and a female with experience as a runway model. An optical motion capture system is used to measure the two walking styles, which are performed by walking instructors. Furthermore, a subjective evaluation experiment is conducted to examine the impressions of the two walking styles. The results suggest that the impression of leg motions, in addition to the impression of the trunk posture, may influence the impressions of walking motion. Walking with good posture, in which a male keeps the trunk upright and clearly flexes and extends the knee and ankle joints, gives the impressions of "healthy". Walking with good posture, in which a female keeps the trunk upright and clearly flexes and extends the knee and ankle joints, gives the impressions of "healthy" "classy" and "beauty".
