METHODS: Within the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (2000-2020), Pheo and PGL patients were identified. Univariable and multivariable Cox-regression models were used. RESULTS: Overall, 406 (53%) Pheo vs. 367 (47%) PGL patients were identified. Five-year CSM-free survival was 76% in Pheo patients vs. 80% in PGL patients (Pheo membership: univariable hazard ratio [HR] 1.2, p=0.2). In multivariable Cox-regression analyses, Pheo membership was independently associated with higher CSM (HR 1.9, p<0.001). In the subgroup of localized Pheo and PGL patients (n=302), five-year CSM-free survival was 91% in Pheo patients vs. 96% in PGL patients (Pheo membership: univariable HR 1.9, p=0.2). In the subgroup of locally advanced Pheo and PGL patients (n=236), five-year CSM-free survival was 87% in Pheo patients vs. 86% in PGL patients (Pheo membership: univariable HR 1.1, p=0.7). In the subgroup of metastatic Pheo and PGL patients (n=235), five-year CSM-free survival was 35% in Pheo patients vs. 61% in PGL patients (Pheo membership: univariable HR 2.3, p<0.001). In multivariable Cox-regression analyses, Pheo membership was independently associated with higher CSM (HR 2.3, 95% CI 1.6-3.3, p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Pheo patients have a worse CSM-free survival than their PGL counterparts. The survival difference between Pheo and PGL patients within the overall cohort is mainly driven by the survival difference between metastatic Pheo and metastatic PGL patients.
