Drug Use Evaluation of Tigecycline at a China Teaching Hospital Using Factor Analysis

. To detect inappropriate and/or unnecessarily drug therapy and thereby to promote the rational use of the tigecycline using factor analysis. Based on the package insert of tigecycline and the "Principles of Clinical Use of Antibiotics", evidence-based assessment criteria were developed to evaluate the appropriateness of tigecycline use. 246 items were contained, for each items, the options of "yes" or "no" were assigned the score of "1" or "0", respectively. Then the score for each prescription in the study was calculated according to factor analysis. Three component factors were extracted for analysis, after rotation of factors, the weight for F3 scored the highest, was 42.79%, followed by F1 (34.02%), finally F2 (23.19%). F3 was related to the domains of bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test and the combination use of antibiotics. According to analysis of the prescriptions data, only 18 prescriptions (7.31%) score greater than 0.8, which were considered to be reasonable. The present study confirms that the drug use evaluation standards meet the needs of research, and factor analysis is suitable to be used. Bacterial culture, drug sensitivity test and the combination use of antibiotics require extreme control.
