Combination of Hydrazofurazan and Triazole Rings for Good Detonation Performance and Low Sensitivity

To achieve a balance between detonation properties and molecular stability, a series of compounds bridged by a hydrazo group have been synthesized in this work. The compounds involved were characterized by NMR spectroscopy (H-1 and( 13)C), IR spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The molecular structures of salts 3 and 4 were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The combination of hydrazo-bridged furazan and 3,4-diamino-1,2,4-triazole greatly improves the thermal stability and sensitivity. Notably, the perchlorate salt 4 shows excellent thermal stability (T (d) = 288.7 C-degrees) and detonation performance (8400 m s(-1), 30.8 GPa), which are superior to those of FOX-12. They all exhibit lower impact sensitivities and friction sensitivities (IS > 40 J, FS > 360 N) than most furazan derivatives bridged by different links, showing the potential to be new high-energy and insensitive candidates.
