Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in High-Risk Endometrial Cancer: the Dénouement.

A sea change in the surgical treatment of endometrial cancer (EC) has led to faster recovery, fewer complications, better cosmesis, and improved operational efficiency. Midline laparotomy, full pelvic (PLD) and para-aortic lymphadenectomy (PALD), and 3-4day lengths of hospital stay have been replaced with minimally invasive surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLN), and same day discharge [1–4]. SLN biopsy offers comparable or better diagnostic accuracy as PLD +/− PALD with the benefit of fewer long-term sequelae such as lymphedema and its attendant reductions in quality of life [4–8].
