摘要
Purpose Disrupted sleep patterns can frequently be seen among cancer survivors not only during therapy but also in survival due to various treatment-related issues. Methods This study aimed to analyze the possible link between sleep quality and sedentary behavior among cancer patients. Patients’ sleep quality was assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) while their sedentary behavior was assessed with the Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ). Results A total of 80 patients with the majority of the type of cancer were breast included in this study. The mean PSQI score, and weekday and weekend sedentary times were found 7.68±4.02, 8.16±3.90, and 6.85±3.86 hours, respectively. Although patients who were under active chemotherapy (A) showed higher sedentariness (8.57 vs. 7.80 hours) compared to ones who completed (B), it did not reach significance (z=-1.410, p=.159). The PSQI scores also did not differ significantly between groups A and B (z=-.956, p=.339). Age was correlated with sleep disturbances (r=.-24, p=0.03), daytime dysfunction (r=.-34, p=0.002), and 1st item of SBQ (watching TV) both on weekdays and weekends (r=.35, p=0.001), respectively. Conclusion This study showed that there was no significant relationship between sedentary time and sleep quality among cancer patients. Though sleep quality can be affected by various factors specifically in patients with cancer, physical inactivity should also be considered in the context of sleep quality. We suggest that the increased screen time especially for older cancer patients should be well managed, whereas sleep hygiene and daytime dysfunction should also be considered as potential barriers for younger cancer patients.
