Formation Mechanisms of Bumps and their Avoidance During Laser Milling of Metals

Studies of the effects responsible for surface degradation in laser milling of metals reveal a multistage formation mechanism. Different types of LSFL and the Marangoni instability emerge as possible main causes of degradation. An adapted processing strategy reduces the process times significantly.
