Improvement of Cr coatings by Mo alloying and the effect of Mo content on the oxidation resistance of CrMo coatings

Improving the oxidation performance in loss-of-coolant accidents is urgent to the development of Cr coating due to its intrinsic limitations. In this work, CrMo monolayer coatings with continuously spreading Mo are fabricated to deal with this matter. High-throughput method is utilized to systematically study the oxidation behaviors after 1200 C-degrees steam tests. The results divide the composition space into three main regions with phenomenologically distinct oxidation behaviors: low, high and optimal Mo content, respectively. Combining the mechanical properties and side effect, a narrow range of Mo content is determined, which presents both promising oxidation resistance and remarkable mechanical performance.
