Abstract
•Plasma-catalytic oxidation of toluene over δ-MnO2 was investigated.•δ-MnO2 with a layered structure was synthesized using a metal–organic framework.•Well-defined δ-MnO2 with accessible inter-lamellar Lewis-acid sites was designed.•The interlayer-exposed δ-MnO2 performed best in plasma-catalytic toluene oxidation.•Lewis-acid sites in δ-MnO2 are the active sites for toluene oxidation.
