Hydrogels as filler materials

Hydrogel filler is used to fill tissue space created by disease or accident. Hydrogel filler is injected into tissue and used to carry drugs, biomolecules, and cells to reconstruct defective regeneration tissue. Hydrogel filler materials are classified as natural or synthetic depending on their origin and whether they are synthesized; they have injectable viscosity, structural stability in vivo, and are biocompatible. In this chapter, we introduce a hydrogel filler that produces a therapeutic effect with minimal invasion; such substances have recently gained popularity in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in terms of minimizing patient discomfort, complications, and expense.
