Current surgical treatments for women's genital prolapse

Among the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and urinary incontinence (UI), surgery remains the last option of medicine in the most severe cases. Several techniques exist, using synthetic implants or not, with very different outcomes, benefits, and success rates. This chapter aims to describe the non-surgical treatment options for POP and the main existing surgical techniques for genital prolapse treatment. The chapter also aims to explain the biomechanical rationale and the consequences of the main surgical procedures.
