Background: Transgenic animals are crucial for gaining a thorough understanding of the disease mechanisms and testing targeted therapeutics.Recent advances in genetic engineering offer unprecedented tools to generate laboratory models for rare pathogenic mutations.Among various animal models, rats are particularly relevant for CF research because of their size, lifespan, well-studied genetics, and airway characteristics, including submucosal glands, disease presentation, and easy breeding.We describe the features of a new rat line developed for human W1098X CFTR ( p.Trp1098X).Although this mutation is rare, the location of this
