Analytical techniques in proteomics

Large-scale production and purification of proteins is a prerequisite for both basic and applied research such as for getting insight into the structural properties, protein biochemistry including enzyme characterization, and other industrial applications. With advancements in DNA sequencing technologies, currently several thousands of microbial genomes have been sequenced and annotated. However, such studies on the proteins are restricted due to limitations of amino acid sequencing methods, compared to genomics. Here, we have described basic techniques related to extracellular protein isolation, their concentration, and prediction of various parameters which can be used for designing overexpression and protein purification strategies.
