An Overview of Common Improvement Methodologies and Their Background

There is no evidence to demonstrate that one quality improvement (QI) methodology is superior to another. The deliberate practice of using a QI method appears more important to outcomes than any one specific method. A clear definition of methodology in perioperative QI projects is essential for accurate replication of effective interventions.
