Post-Truth, Pandemics, and Professional Betrayal

Oxford's word of the year for 2016, post-truth, fit. As I concluded teaching another semester of philosophy of science – where we discuss the origins and evolution of nursing's epistemological and ontological roots – my old understanding of facts and faith seemed foreign. Living in the South, I was accustomed to being in the minority with my socio-political perspectives. However, my belief in the goodness of people found its home in the same southern spaces of genuinely caring individuals. After all, diversity of thought is a wonderful thing.
