Business incubators and accelerators: a co-citation analysis-based, systematic literature review

Chapter 2 continues the theme and further articulates the contributions made in the field of incubation by extending the analysis to include newer models and approaches such as accelerators along with the increasing role of open innovation, social capital theory, and the resource-based view as frameworks to understand incubation. Three study streams: definitions and typologies of incubators, studies on the incubation process, and studies on impact and performance, are explored in detail. This systematic literature review further highlights worldwide research activity by identifying prominent researchers, publication outlets, which contributes to the scholarly effort deriving current themes and a future research agenda.
