Catalytic conversion of biomass to fuels and chemicals is fraught with low selectivity.This Minireview provides an overview of the physical and chemical protec-tion strategies used to improve selectivity in biomass conversion and describes the potential of using protection chemistry to manipulate catalytic pathways.
