Investigation of the Heat Discharge from a Solar-Powered Air Heater with Distinctive Dual Arc Artificial Roughness

In this study, an artificially roughened solar-based air heater (SBAH) is put through a series of experimental tests in an effort to improve its thermal properties employing distinctive dual arc artificial roughness. The artificially created roughness pattern disturbs the flow and augments the heat discharge behavior of SBAH surface. Under a predetermined sequence of flow Reynolds number (Re), the roughness with relative rib altitude (e/D) of 0.034 and variable relative distances of pitch (P/e) from 8 to 12 and relative distances of staggered pitch (P'/P) from 0.25 to 0.75 is experimentally examined. For e/D of 0.034, P/e of 10, and P'/P of 0.5, the determined Nusselt number (Nu) and friction factor (f) are derived as 2.27 and 3.10 times respectively as equated to a plane configured surface of SBAH. The experimental Nu and f have been correlated with the geometrical and flow variables considered, anticipating the thermal conduct of SBAH using distinctive dual arc roughness. The basis for this forecast is the experimental data that have been gathered.
