Microwave Microfluidic Sensor for Detecting Organic and Inorganic Compounds in Water

A microwave-based planar microfluidic sensor is presented in this paper. The sensor is designed using a microstrip transmission line loaded with a shunt inductance and a shunt connected series LC resonator. The combination of the inductance and LC resonators produces a transmission pole together with a transmission zero, which enable dielectric measurements at two frequency bands. A microfluidic channel is realized along the capacitive gap of the sensor for fluidic samples detection. A sensor prototype is fabricated and the experimental measurements are performed validating the proposed sensor for microfluidic samples detection.
