LA–ICP–MS U–Pb geochronology and geological significance of two types of monazite in the Xinjiazui gold deposit, northwestern margin of Yangtze Block, China

•The monazite symbiotic with framboidal pyrite yield an intercept age of 460.8 ± 7.0 Ma, indicating the existence of Ordovician Chenjiaba Formation in Xinjiazui orefield.•Newly reported gold mineralization age of the Xinjiazui deposit range from 206.4 to 207.4 Ma by in-suit LA-ICP-MS U-Pb ages of monazite symbiotic with free gold.•Gold mineralization of the Xinjiazui gold deposit occurred in the stage of tectonic transition from compression to extension in the late collisional orogenic period.
