CFD Simulation of Wet Spouted Fluidized Bed Using Two-fluid Model with Variable Restitution Coefficient and Diameter

Gas-solid fluidized bed usually forms wet particle fluidization system due to a small amount of liquid on the particle surface, resulting in the cohesive effects and agglomeration behavior which makes its fluidization characteristics significantly different with that of the dry particle system. In this study, based on the two-fluid model (TFM) with variable restitution coefficient model describing the cohesive effects, a particle diameter model of agglomerate was developed to account the agglomeration behavior by replacing the initial particle diameter. Therefore, the TFM with variable restitution coefficient and diameter was successfully established and applied to predict the hydrodynamics of a wet spouted fluidized bed, in which the variation of restitution coefficient and particle diameter were captured simultaneously for the first time. The agglomeration behavior of wet particles was reproduced and analyzed, and the simulation results were compared with the experimental and CFD-DEM results reported. The effects of liquid viscosity and layer thickness on the hydrodynamics of wet particles were also investigated .
