Ethnopharmacological and Therapeutic Potential of Terminalia Arjuna and Camellia Sinensis Against Cardiovascular Diseases: Evidence and Experimental Studies
Elsevier eBooks(2022)
摘要
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) include a range of heart and blood vessel pathological conditions that account for high morbidity and mortality rates. Modern medicine cannot be recommended for preventing the early stage of CVDs due to adverse effects and therapeutic inadequacies. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop new treatment options for CVDs based on the discovery of safe and effective drugs derived from natural products. Among traditional medicine, plants and herbs, either in extracts or bioactive compounds, have always been used for generations. With the advancement in scientific research, medicinal plants and plant-derived extracts have shown great promise for treating CVDs. The present chapter will address the uses, clinical trials, current research progress, and therapeutic approaches of medicinal plants and their derivatives against CVD. Further, we will discuss the ethnopharmacological and therapeutic potentials of two essential herbs, viz., Arjuna and green tea, for the treatment of CVDs.
