Reorganizing access to Primary Health Care in Jaragua do Sul (SC)

Objective: To report the experience of reorganizing access to Primary Health Care (ABS) units in the city of Jaragua do Sul. Method: Changing the flow to advanced access, increasing nursing consultations and carrying out medical consultation efforts to improve access and decrease the waiting list for consultations in the ABS were used as strategies. Results: The combination of strategies managed to progressively reduce the waiting list for consultations in the ABS, being more evident for cases of 1st consultation, whose line was zeroed after 6 months of implementation of the changes. The increase in nursing consultations represented the most substantial gain in improving access. Conclusions: The reorganization of access as a whole allowed for an improvement in accessibility, which strengthened the ABS as the preferred gateway to the system and allowed for the construction of the longitudinality of care.
