Abstract
There is a high comorbidity between medical diseases and psychiatric disorders. The use of drugs in these patients requires careful consideration of the medical illness, its effects on pharmacokinetics, drug interactions and drug contraindications. In this paper we review aspects of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in patients with medical illness. The use of psychoactive drugs in patients with hepatic, cardiac and renal disease is analyzed and it is discussed which drugs are safer in these indications.
