Evaluation of a 30-day-mortality risk calculator for patients undergoing surgical fixation of fragility hip fractures

•Hip fractures are a common orthopedic injury and many scoring tools exist to predict post-operative outcomes, including the HEMA score.•The HEMA score is correlated with 30-day mortality after fragility hip fracture in our population, though it overestimated mortality rates.•Dementia, elevated troponin level, and dialysis-dependent renal failure are variables predictive of 30-day mortality and are not included in the HEMA score.
