Cutaneous findings of fulminant monkeypox in a patient with HIV/AIDS
JAAD Case Reports(2023)
Abstract
Monkeypox, more recently mpox, is a poxviridae orthopoxvirus that reemerged as an international health emergency in 2022.1 Since then, >30,000 cases have been reported in the United States.2 Infected individuals typically present with prodromal fever and malaise followed by cutaneous findings after 1 to 5 days. Typical mpox lesions consist of a localized eruption of the anogenital skin and mucosa; however, reports have emerged of a disseminated form involving the trunk and extremities.3 These lesions present as painful papulovesicles to ulceronecrotic plaques.
