•Some new Quinoline-based metal chelates were synthesized and characterized.•Extensive theoretical studies were conducted to confirm the experimental data.•Antimicrobial activities were performed against four bacteria and two fungi.•Molecular Docking studies were carried out to confirm the biological activity.
