摘要

•Birds’ association with weevil-caused damage was tested in eucalypt plantations.•Taxonomic and functional diversity, group- and species-level approaches were compared.•Damage showed a negative correlation with bird communities in the four approaches.•Group- and species-level approaches provided the best predictors of avian insectivory.•Weevil damage can be reduced in areas where functional insectivorous birds aggregate.
