145. Investigation of the Effects of Olanzapine on CNS Insulin-Mediated Brain Glucose Uptake Using 2DG Autoradiography

Antipsychotics (APs) are the cornerstone of treatment for schizophrenia. However, they are associated with adverse metabolic side effects, such as an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, which may be attributable to disrupted actions of insulin in the brain. In this proof-of-concept study, we examined the neural correlates of AP-induced cerebral insulin resistance as measured by an attenuation in brain glucose uptake in response to central nervous system (CNS) insulin administration.
