The development of industry requires compliance with modern environmental trends in the industrial and chemical complex. It is necessary to use safe and waste-free technologies, to solve the problems of waste disposal, and to create closed technological production cycles. Today, scientists are faced with the urgent task of recycling plastic materials, the accumulation of which poses a direct threat to the environment, and therefore to humans. The huge amounts of plastic polymers in the oceans inhibit the development of plankton, endangering aquatic birds and fish. This study looks at the main types of plastic and examines the different ways in which it can be recycled. In addition, attention is paid to catalytic methods of processing thermoplastics from the point of view of increasing the efficiency of the process, as well as to the creation and features of utilization of biodegradable plastics.
