摘要
One Library Within One University: Embedding a One Library Approach and Vision: change in libraries is not new, many have written about it and shared their experiences and perspectives. I write from the position of UL and as participant of the benchmarking exercise. From this experience, what I offer in this chapter is a perspective which is rooted in knowledge and understanding of sector good and best practice but shines the spotlight what for me is key to change which sticks—understanding your University and aligning with it as one. This chapter will explore the concept of a “one library approach” in the development of the library’s strategic plan. This resulted in a major change to the organizational structure, with new models of service delivery and a greater expectation on staff to engage and contribute to decision-making. Rather than leading from the top, a “leading from everywhere” way of working encouraged staff to step up and move beyond their role. A case study approach will be taken to demonstrate steps taken to build a strong cultural position across the library team. Through socialization, consultation, shared governance, and proactive engagement, a real “partnership” across the library team is building a culture of high performance, accountability, and excellence, with an agile workforce who are engaged and enjoy the work they do. The chapter will reflect on the post-change implementation review, which alongside the University-wide employee experience survey provided an opportunity to “health check” progress, looking at culture, change transition, and staff professional goals. Results indicate that the library has a strong and a more united team culture, with higher job satisfaction and pride in place of work.
