Despite the various advances recorded in fighting hunger, millions of people today still suffer from lack of food, largely concentrated in rural areas where adverse climatic conditions make it difficult to manage and grow crops, largely relying on agriculture for their subsistence (FAO 2019). Given this reality, alternative sources of food, such as cacti, are necessary.
