The behavior of interlocked ortho-grid composite sandwich structure subjected to low-velocity impact

•Low-velocity impact test of interlocked ortho-grid composite sandwich structure is carried out.•Effect of the height of interlocked slot and impact position on impact responses are studied by impact experiment.•The failure modes and damage mechanism are revealed and concluded by using experimental and numerical method.
