Silicon Solid-State Detectors for Monitoring High-Energy Accelerator Mixed Field Radiation Environments
2021 21ST EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON RADIATION AND ITS EFFECTS ON COMPONENTS AND SYSTEMS (RADECS)(2021)
Abstract
This paper investigates an application of the 1000µm-thick silicon solid-state detector for monitoring of a mixed-field radiation environment, in particular an accelerator environment. The calibrations of the detector against both an alpha source and high-energy protons are presented. The protons measurements are benchmarked against the FLUKA Monte Carlo simulations. As the detector might be deployed in a future RadMON version, a simulated accelerator use case is presented, highlighting the enhanced sensitivity (by 3-4 orders of magnitude) with respect to SRAM-based solutions, in case of High Energy Hadron (HEH) fluence monitoring.
